In a contemporary and modern world, one finds a bit of nostalgia in vintage pieces. And when one doesn’t find what she’s looking for in a vintage shop, vintage-inspired items can be just as great! This look was inspired by the Fauna & Flora collection from Couture Dossier, an incredible and one-of-a-kind store in Greenwich, CT. The capsule collection contains a beautiful mix of eye-catching patterns and summertime aesthetics with an over-arching theme of the All American Girl. I can’t imagine picking a favorite piece from the collection, however, this red cardinal skirt is up there for my favorite statement piece. (Did I mention that it has pockets.)
Because the skirt is so bold, I have decided to keep the rest of the outfit simple. My white cotton shirt tied at the waist is a crisp counterpart to the liveliness of the skirt, and a favorable option for daytime activities. I’m already day-dreaming about the summer brunches, picnics in the park, and daytime parties that this skirt may see…the opportunities get me excited for my July and August calendars! For the most part, my accessories have stayed neutral so as not to compete with the busy print. A wicker bag and nude heels are thoughtful choices to complete this ensemble, and a vintage drop earring shimmers above my neckline to tie the whole look together. On particularly sunny days, this outfit also lends itself perfectly to a classic straw-hat-and-sunnies combo as well.
Let’s not forget the versatility of this Couture Dossier
work of art. Turn the clock forward a few hours and I could see this knee-length number paired with a black cropped top and a sparkly earring. A black stiletto and a small clutch would be the last two pieces to turn this stroll in the park to a dance in the dark. And the fullness of the skirt is perfect for providing a nighttime feel to an otherwise daytime-friendly garment. With these subtle accessory changes, I’m ready for any evening affair that New York or L.A. send my way. And no matter which city I’m in, I’ll always have a little piece of Greenwich, CT with me.
