As the leaves change colors and fall from the trees, fashionistas everywhere opt for a navy, onyx black, or heather grey jacket. In a sea of dark-colored coats, it’s way too easy to blend in. That’s why I’ve opted for a bright blue peacoat this fall season.

J. Crew really delivered with this piece. The sky blue hue is a breath of fresh air – just as fresh as the sharp autumn breeze. But it’s unexpected, which makes it the ultimate statement piece. Contrasted with my trendy bell bottoms and printed button down, the streamlined construction pulls the entire look together in a clean and sophisticated way.

If you’re not sure about this blue in particular but still want an equal “wow” factor, test the waters of a warmer palette. Reds, oranges, and golds are more expected for fall but also stand out from the darker outerwear in stores and on the streets.

Because this coat is minimal and sleek, I’ve decided to keep my accessories in the same vein. It’s smart to avoid overshadowing your statement piece if you want it to be the focal point of the outfit. If you absolutely need to accessorize, go for a complimentary scarf or pair of gloves. Who says comfort and coziness has to be sacrificed for fashion?
