Glad for plaid!

It’s 2014 and plaid is back in a very big way.  Believe it or not, the origins of this patterned material dates all the way back to the 1500’s when it was worn by Scotsmen as a kilt or a blanket. But today, designers have made plaid more mainstream and idiosyncratic….though no longer a pattern Glad for plaid!

HT3A6965It’s 2014 and plaid is back in a very big way.  Believe it or not, the origins of this patterned material dates all the way back to the 1500’s when it was worn by Scotsmen as a kilt or a blanket.

But today, designers have made plaid more mainstream and idiosyncratic….though no longer a pattern worn by the counterculture of the ’70’s or the grunged of the 90’s, it still maintains a faint hint of the irreverent, so no matter how you wear it, you’ll never be mistaken for a farmer in a dell!

HT3A6920I kept my plaid look casual, pairing it with denim and layered with a draped circle cardigan and  I dialed it up with a lugg sole bootie to add a little urban vibe.  To keep it feminine, I added some sparkle:  crystal and pearl necklace, crystal and lucite bracelets, and a patterned polka dot crossbody bag.

Accesssorizing plaid can transport the look from frumpy farmhouse to fashionable femme.
