Glad for plaid!
It’s 2014 and plaid is back in a very big way. Believe it or not, the origins of this patterned material dates all the way back to the 1500’s when it was worn by Scotsmen as a kilt or a blanket. It’s 2014 and plaid is back in a very big way. Believe it or not, the origins of this patterned material dates all the way back to the 1500’s when it was worn by Scotsmen as a kilt or a blanket.
But today, designers have made plaid more mainstream and idiosyncratic….though no longer a pattern worn by the counterculture of the ’70’s or the grunged of the 90’s, it still maintains a faint hint of the irreverent, so no matter how you wear it, you’ll never be mistaken for a farmer in a dell!
I kept my plaid look casual, pairing it with denim and layered with a draped circle cardigan and I dialed it up with a lugg sole bootie to add a little urban vibe. To keep it feminine, I added some sparkle: crystal and pearl necklace, crystal and lucite bracelets, and a patterned polka dot crossbody bag.
Accesssorizing plaid can transport the look from frumpy farmhouse to fashionable femme.
Special shout out to my new Darien girlfriends who stopped by during the shoot and told me my outfit was “on point!”
