The military-inspired trend came ’round a few seasons ago, but it has yet to leave. And I’m not complaining! With a few classic pieces in my closet already — army green and camouflage, boxy silhouettes and shoulder pads, black with gold details, etc. — I decided it was time for a more feminine upgrade. My latest wardrobe edition is this beautiful blush military longline jacket from Zara. The subtle hue keeps this particular coat from being too Sergeant Pepper-esque. But the millennial pink itself leaves this piece relevant and versatile. The perfect addition to my fall jacket collection!
With my staple pop of color covered, I’ve gone with a monotone palette for the rest of the outfit. As I’ve shown in previous posts on the blog, you can never go wrong with a neutral ensemble to complement whatever color you choose as the focus. These black leather pants from Alice + Olivia don’t distract from the jacket itself, however, they’re enough of a statement to stand out in a sea of black leggings and skinny jeans. I’ve paired this particular look with some embellished platform heels from Charlotte Olympia contrasted with a minimalist Roger Vivier bag. I don’t want too many points of interest in this outfit, taking the spotlight from each other.
Not sure how you could pull off an outfit like this with your own wardrobe? It’s simple! This jacket is much more versatile than some may think. If leather pants aren’t your thing, you could easily switch out for a streamlined skirt and some opaque tights to bump up the femininity. Or, you could dress this look down with some black distressed skinny jeans. Maybe you don’t like heels at all, but want something a bit fancier than sneakers. Try out a trendy, embellished pair of flats in a neutral color. Black, nude, or even another shade of blush would look fantastic as a finishing touch here. Can’t stand separates? Slip on a sleeveless turtleneck dress or fit and flare smock to show off your shape underneath the jacket. Starting off an outfit with one piece (like a dress) can take the stress out of styling multiple pieces at once.
No matter how you put it, this coat goes with any black, nude, or white piece in your wardrobe. Get creative and pair it with contrasting colors, layer it with your favorite fall pieces underneath, or keep it simple. No matter who you are, this military-inspired jacket fits into nearly any wardrobe.
